Soundtrack of 2009

Before it’s completely ridiculous to post 2009 retrospective lists, I wanted to make one of some of the songs/albums that were most important to me … then in a year I can look back and sigh nostalgically … because that’s fun, right?

  • CocoRosie’s “By Your Side,” “Not For Sale,” and “West Side” (songs)
  • Hooverphonic’s “2 Wicky” (song)
  • The Knife (nearly all of their music)
  • Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” a gateway song to Gaga addiction
  • Massive Attack’s “What Your Soul Sings” (song)
  • Moby’s “Porcelain” (song)
  • Modest Mouse’s “Good News For People Who Love Bad News” (album)
  • My Brightest Diamond’s “I Had a Pearl” (song)
  • Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” (song)
  • Smoke City’s “Flying Away” (album)
  • TV on the Radio’s “Return to Cookie Mountain” (album)
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “It’s Blitz!” (album)

These are all songs/albums that I listened to a lot during 2009 and to which I have acute associations because of that. In sooner than you’d expect, we’ll see what a year can do.
